Bảo Vương

biography

Bao was born in Vietnam shortly after the war and his family fled the country when he was just one year old and they made their way to France via Malaysia, which is where Bao grew up. He received his BA from the Fine Art School of Toulon and the Art School of Avignon in France. In his early thirties he returned to Vietnam and today works as a visual artist in Ho Chi Minh City.


For his work he uses a variety of mediums including Vietnamese cultural and religious symbolism expressed by way of drawing, photography, video, sculpture, painting and collages that incorporate with found objects. He employs the characteristics of light and transparency of materials including Plexiglas, glass and ink to show the relationship of distance and remembering.


Recent exhibitions include: ‘Through memories’ - l’ESPACE, Institute of France, Hanoi – 2016; ‘Ngu Cho Nó Bay’ - Galerie Quynh, Ho Chi Minh City – 2017 and 'Crossing' - Manzi Art Space, Hanoi - 2019
